And also because, duh, cats in costume? You get where we’re coming from. I mean, look at this: don’t know about you, but every time I come across a photo like this it makes me smile. Every time. It must be the whiskers.
Or maybe it’s because one of my all-time favorite Halloween costumes was the one I wore in the fourth grade when I was at St. Andrew’s Apostle School. While every other Catholic girl embraced their inner Madonnas by dressing up Like a Virgin, I opted for a more Andrew Lloyd Webber-friendly Cats costume. I donned my favorite leotard and tights, of which I had many, along with the finest furry tail and cat ears I could find at our local CVS, which was then People’s Drugstore.
How retro am I?
Many (many) Halloweens later, it is getting increasingly unlikely that I – or anyone I know, for that matter – will go out in public dressed as a character from America’s favorite 80s musical.
If you’re of my generation, it is likely that you will dress up your own kid as Miley Cyrus … or a cat.
Better yet, perhaps you’ll end up dressing your cat as Miley Cyrus, Marilyn Monroe, the Wicked Witch of the West, Madonna, the caped crusader, Elmo, Shrek, a frog, or a dog.
